My name is Magdalena. I draw, write and travel.
I live on this planet to discover its beauty, to constantly learn and create. The blood of a traveler and explorer runs through my veins, so nothing excites me more than new places, people, and flavors. Portugal is my great love and my fuel is a combination of sun, ocean, and activity. What really drives me is living to the fullest, trying new things, and looking for new passions. There are many of them, but here I wanna share with you two of them, line art and traveling.
One day in the middle of the ocean…
Once, while working on a tiny Portuguese island – Madeira, I waited at the airport for a late flight. Meanwhile, I took out a notebook from my friend Belinda (thank you, Dear), found a blue pen at the bottom of the bag, and drew a lizard. In short, super crooked and even ugly, but it was enough! In other words, I caught the bug and started drawing, and this is how my adventure with line art and mehndi began…
Line Art, a unique way to capture the beauty.
I create Line Art, Mehndi, and Zentangle drawings working with fineliners and my endless imagination. Most importantly, my artworks are made in any format (usually A5, A4, A3) in a consistent, black and white, unique style. I create floral motifs, mandalas, and symmetrical patterns, delicately connected by the characteristic, classy smooth lines. Black backgrounds attract me with their elegance, so I avoid colors. Without a doubt, line art and mehndi drawings are a unique way to capture the beauty and delicacy around us.
Line Art, where black plays with white.
Line art or mehndi drawing is any image that consists of distinct straight or curved lines placed against a (usually plain) background, without gradations in shade (darkness) or hue (color) to represent two-dimensional or three-dimensional objects. This technique can use lines of different colors, although it’s is usually monochromatic. Moreover, this art emphasizes form and outline, over color, shading, and texture. However, areas of solid pigment and dots can also be used in addition to lines.
I draw, design and… publish.
My recent success was the release of three coloring books for adults, featuring floral motifs, mandalas, and oriental patterns (check here). Above all, I am very grateful for this opportunity. However, I don’t treat it like the icing on the cake, quite the opposite, I keep drawing. Moreover, I design greeting cards, custom-made artworks, and I project tattoos that delight with delicacy and classic form. Such gifts are unique gestures of love, creativity, and trust.
